Solar panels 22

With construction of a new building going on just to the south of us, B-K Lighting + TEKA Illumination CEO/Owner Doug Hagen and President Nathan Sloan included the design of solar-equipped, shaded parking in between the current B-K Lighting building and the new structure. Since the solar panels being installed on the roof of the new shaded parking area are twice as efficient as the 10-year old panels located on the roof of our existing building, Hagen and Sloan decided to reevaluate the current solar panels and see what might be done to increase their efficiency.

As a result, the entire system of approximately 1400 panels will be replaced with new, higher efficiency panels. What does this mean? With just half the amount of panels, we’ll achieve the same energy output, thereby decreasing our overall carbon footprint on the environment! Add to that the additional power coming from the parking structure, and B-K Lighting + TEKA Illumination will be producing 60% more power than the previous system.

Not only that, but the cars parked under the new shaded system will stay cooler during the hot Central Valley summers and take less time to cool down as employees leave at the end of the day, which will lead to fewer emissions and lots of gas savings in the process!

And speaking of gas savings – we have our first two electric car owners! So what does B-K Lighting do when employees purchase electric vehicles? Why, we put in a charging station, of course! Our new electric vehicle charging station will be able to charge up to four cars simultaneously and once installed, will be the newest addition to our GreenSource Initiative™.
