BestShot May2018 AshleyMathews AmazonSpheres

On the outside, more than 2,500 uniquely positioned panes of temperature-controlling glass span the surface of the two connected, bulbous buildings.

On the inside, a virtual rainforest complete with a 4,000 square foot Living Wall built to nourish more than 25,000 plants, a 50-foot tall California-grown Ficus tree nicknamed 'Rubi', and more than 400 cloud forest, climate-compatible plant species from all over the world.

And although daylighting seems to be a primary focus, we’re honored that WSP Seattle specified more than 150 B-K Lighting fixtures to highlight walkways, signage and other features of the biophilic design.

Lighting Designer and BKU Alumnus Ashley Mathews, Assoc. AIA, Assoc. IALD of project architect NBBJ Seattle submitted this month’s Best Shots that showcase how B-K Lighting fixtures meld into the walls and ceilings of this one-of-a-kind office space.

"The Amazon Spheres is completely climate controlled and favorable to plant growth," said Mathews. "Recreating an indoor tropical climate requires fixtures to perform and function in a range of temperature [and humidity] conditions, which only B-K Lighting can handle."

A big THANK YOU, and CONGRATULATIONS to Ashley for being named our May 2018 Best Shot Winner! Ashley, your hundred bucks is on the way!
