9 11 Header

This year's ceremony began with opeinging remarks from B-K Lighting+TEKA Illumination Marketing Manager Becky Carlson followed by Boy Scout Troup 223's Presentation of the Colors and Pledge of Allegiance. After the Invocation, Veteran Terry Cole, from Caring Veterans of America, presented B-K Lighting + TEKA Illumination President Nathan Sloan with a special plaque honoring the donations toward the organization.

Sloan also took the opportunity to honor all veterans who have served and continue to serve this great country, and those present were traditionally presented with B-K Lighting’s own Challenge Coin.

We also had the opportunity to look into the lives of some of the fallen heroes of 9/11 in a video. We encourage you to take the time to watch the video towards the bottom of this page.

This year’s special guest speaker was Ground Zero Volunteer, Frances Dunniway, FNP (above).

A member of the San Bernardino County Disaster Medical Assistance Team since 1998, Frances was deployed to Ground Zero on September 23rd, 2001. The team of 42 members were assigned to assist anyone who needed medical attention, more specifically any survivors. Frances is dedicated to a lifetime of continuing education with interests in disaster preparedness and response, critical care, emergency and family practice topics along with her courageous efforts to help not only the Fresno community, but our Country as well.

Upon taking the microphone and podium, Frances read from her personal journal that she kept with her while she was stationed at Ground Zero, she reminised on the moments of her ordeal following the attacks of September 11, 2001.

As the ceremony closed, Sloan presented donation amounts of $2,500.00 each to the families of Braden Varney and Brian Hughes, brave California Firefighters who passed away during the Ferguson Fire of 2018.
