QUESTION: How many square feet has B-K occupied over the last 30 years?
ANSWER: Well...it's complicated!
The very first location of B-K Lighting actually operated out a sales office located at 2090 N. Winery while the "plant" operated out of the same location that Kious Electric operated in 1984. Footage: approximately 900 ft².
Soon thereafter, with LiteStar™, Step Star™ and Earth Star™ filling orders, B-K Lighting quickly moved into their own "plant" located at 2719 N Grove, Suite 131, a whopping 1/10th of a mile away from Kious (two buildings over, half a building to the north). Footage: 1500 ft².
B-K Lighting moved to this location circa 1993 after eight years. It was located at 2730 N Grove. National Sales Manager Ryan Berrios began his career at this location when he was merely 14 years old (unofficially). Ryan reminisces, "I still miss the hair." Footage: 5000 ft².
The fourth B-K Lighting building was located on 7595 North Del Mar Avenue, 9.8 miles almost due north from the previous. This building, resplendent in its architectural eclecticism served B-K Lighting for several years. The late Ron Naus joined B-K Lighting circa 1998 and within his first 30 days he was organizing a move (again to the north) where almond groves and orange trees dominate the lazy, hilly landscape.
New Product guru Justin Perez also began his lighting career at the Del Mar building. It is widely known within the company that Justin has fielded many positions over the years and has accordingly developed high level of product knowledge and expertise few ascertain except industry veterans. Footage: 11,500 ft².
The current location is of course at 40429 Brickyard Drive, just north of the San Joaquin river in Madera, California. This location didn't start off complete; the building was designed to afford expansion. Seven years after these doors opened B-K Lighting was forced to raise the roof, literally adding 52,000 ft² to the existing structure. At the time of this article, the parking lot seems to hint that we're set for another round of expansion; the overflow gravel lot to the south of the building is now being utilized on a daily basis as additional employees have swelled the ranks. Footage: 80,000 ft².
