QUESTION: What is the furthest project location from B-K Lighting?
ANSWER: For August 2014 we challenged readers to find the furthest projects from B-K Lighting out of five selected projects. We didn't provide readers with anything other than the names of the projects; it was up to the participant to determine the location and calculate the distance from B-K Lighting.
The first project presented was the art installation "Line of Work" by Jill Anholt with lighting specifications by Joseph Scott of Tripped on Light. This one was a bit tricky to find because it is not readily apparent on any of the map sites including Google Maps as shown below. The project is visible in satellite view and relatively precise coordinates can be found.

Duke University Cancer Center's Quiet Room was highlighted in July 2014's Best Shot and was also presented to participants. Taking details and information from the best shot feature, the Cancer center can be approximately triangulated.

The third location is also on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. The twist here, aside from the steel canopies in the main pavilion, is the naming convention. Brookfield Place is a complete re-branding of what was formerly known as the World Financial Center located just across the street from Ground Zero at the WTC memorial site.

A clear front runner for the longest distance from B-K Lighting is the Royal Mirage Arabian Court, also known as the Palace located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This grand desert hotel and spa is located just across the Burj Khalifa, the world's current tallest building.

Distance from B-K Lighting: 8144 miles across one ocean and two continents.
Located beneath the Tropic of Capricorn, the Le Touessrok hotel in Trou d'Eau Douce, Mauritius is the current project record holder for longest distance from B-K Lighting. Ross also designed the lighting for the Le Touessrok which included all public spaces, and exterior and landscape lighting. The fixtures for this dramatic lighting are unobtrusive, blending invisibly with the architecture and landscaping.

Distance from B-K Lighting: 11289 miles across two oceans and two continents.
The Le Touessrok Resort project has a good chance of remaining the furthest project location indefinately. Why? The Le Touessrok Resort lies only 1726 miles from B-K Lighting's antipodal coordinates (exact opposite point on earth) which is located at -36.897743°, 60.187762°. Mauritius is one of the closest populated land masses.
Perth, Australia is a potential second place candidate with only 1977 miles from the B-K antipodes. We are looking forward to more down-under lighting installations in the future!
