To give a hand to those of you who might be novices in the King’s history, Cousin Elfis would like to give you a little history on his dear friend (and give you a little boost in your chances of winning an Apple Watch).
Hi everyone! Elfis here, I’ve got my blue suede shoes on and ready to give you some very important information on my good buddy, Elvis. Now pay real close attention to what I tell you, an Apple Watch is at stake! Elvis was born January 8th, 1935, just a few years or so before me. Me and the king met up in his birth state of Mississippi just about the time he picked up his first guitar and moved to Tennessee. Gee he musta been about 11 I’d say. He did play a lot better than I did but I blame my small mitten-like elf hands. Elvis was an only child due to his identical brother dying at birth. I tried to be a little brother to him, since I have the whole “little” part down. Mama Gladys always said we were more like brothers so in a way he wasn’t alone.
As time went on, Elvis grew up and grew in popularity, that’s when he met Miss Pricilla Beaulieu and soon she moved to Elvis’ home, Graceland. He and Pricilla got hitched on May 1, 1967. About a year later I became Uncle Elfis when little miss Lisa Marie was born. Boy was she cute! I enjoyed playing games with, until she got bigger than me! After our karate classes (we’re both black belts ya know!)
Elvis enjoyed spending time eating fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches and writing music in his "Jungle Room", one of many rooms in his Graceland mansion. Boy that brings back some good ol’ memories. Mmmmm Now I’m hungry! Any time I was over and he would make one of those sandwiches, I would run out of whatever room I was in screaming, “Elfis has left the building!” just so I could snatch one up before he ate ‘em all!
My friend went on to record many hits and star in multiples movies, in which he got to sing in as well. To this day I still can’t understand why I never got to co-star in any of them. No eye for talent I suppose! He and I loved Christmas. His favorite place to spend Christmas at was at his home, Graceland in Memphis, with his family. He was known for singing many Christmas songs, including his favorite, White Christmas. But, he is most known for singing the hit, Blue Christmas, which actually re-launched his music career which was the only Christmas song he sang during his widely popular ’68 Comeback Special. He also sang "Santa Bring Back My Baby To Me" and a song known to be one of the "blues-iest" Christmas songs, "Santa Claus Is Back In Town". Lastly, a hit song you might know, "If Everyday Was Like Christmas" was written by his friend and bodyguard, Red West. We had some good times together. Although, I wasn’t there for Christmas, I had other obligations in a much colder place!
My buddy passed away August 16, 1977 at his home at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 42 due to an overdose of prescription drugs. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of my buddy Elvis. Something I always appreciated about him was, it didn't need to be Christmas for him to give gifts. He was widely known for giving perfect strangers brand new Cadillacs! How cool is that? I’m not sure why I never got one though?!? Must be those tiny hands again.
Now, I have been known to give some cool stuff away too! It’s not a Cadillac, but it is an Apple Watch! Just think about all the Elvis songs you can play from it! Here is how you can enter to win:
