On Tuesday, May 9 at 6 p.m., we’ll gather outside the LIGHTFAIR 2017 Exhibit Hall and board a bus bound for three inspirational landmarks that incorporate B-K Lighting fixtures. In this interactive and mobile forum, your tour will be narrated by representatives from B-K Lighting+TEKA Illumination and The Lighting Practice.

Starting today, we begin our Road to LIGHTFAIR. Each month, we’ll take you on a virtual journey of the sites highlighted on our LIGHTFAIR Bus Tour.

FIRST STOP: The Philadelphia Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1739 Vine Street.

Although the project was officially completed in July of 2016, the original lighting specifications were drawn up in 2012 – eventually provoking a second look by the designers at The Lighting Practice.

The greatest challenge for this project was advancement in technology. At that time [2012], manufacturers were more regularly updating and modifying their product lines, so they felt they needed to work with a lighting manufacturer known for their consistency and high quality products. Even though the B-K Lighting product specified had eventually been updated [with high efficiency, lower wattage, Power of ‘X’ BKSSL® sources], B-K Lighting maintained the same form factor and quality of light, and only increased the efficiency. (Source: thelightingpractice.com)

The detail and depth of the neoclassical design of the temple allowed TLP to provide more drama and layers of light to the façade, and it was awarded the Trumbauer Award for Excellence by the Philadelphia Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA). To top it off, The Lighting Practice specified over 100 Denali Series™ floodlights to illuminate the landscape surrounding the Temple and complete the project.
