Applied science in the lighting industry has advanced rapidly since the advent of the LED. At that moment in history, it became apparent to us and our peers in the trade that new and rapid development of evermore cutting-edge technologies wouldn’t be slowing anytime soon. And they haven’t.

It’s this very reason that B-K Lighting + TEKA Illumination take continuing education so seriously. To keep our valued employees at the forefront of progress is as advantageous for the companies as a whole, as it is for each individual career.

Early this year we began a four-part Lighting Basics for Beginners series where all of our employees could take part in receiving instruction from our Technical Sales specialist Ian Altares. His most recent class focused on fixture design and how manufacturing affects the design process.

Folks from the Machine Shop to Assembly to Accounting took part and are looking forward to the next class, where we learn about our own Custom Fixture Design capabilities. Thanks again, Ian!

Then, there’s our latest courses for improvement: Photometry and Luminaires + Optics lead by Jennifer Jaques, LC, IES of Lighting Application Sciences, LLC (LAS).

Jennifer entered the lighting industry in 1995 when she joined Wide-Lite Corporation and worked for five years as an application engineer. She founded LAS in 2000 to provide out-of-house photometric and technical services to lighting manufacturers, sales representatives and others.

Alongside IES Fresno / Yosemite Section, B-K Lighting + TEKA Illumination was able to woo Jennifer to the factory in Madera, California to provide onsite instruction to our lighting department and sales and marketing teams.

"The education is invaluable," said National Sales Manager Ryan Berrios. "The amount of dedicated instruction we received today significantly lifts our ability to help our customers. To provide them with even more of the technical expertise they need to take their projects to the next level."
