We received so many questions of great significance and they all deserved to be answered. If you have any further questions – Ask – we will deliver!

Thank you for your astute observations and inquisitive minds,

Nathan Sloan
President, B-K Lighting+TEKA Illumination

Q: I think you’re going to need to provide lightning protection on your pole head that incorporate on a metal pole.

A: We believe this to be true as well and will be working to add this as an option. Some of the electronics we use in our fixtures are SPD rated, but in certain cases we’ll need to implement a more stringent safety device. Be on the lookout for this option when specifying a TEKA Illumination or B-K Lighting pole top fixture in the near future.

Q: Do you have problems with bugs getting into mesh around fixtures?

A: I’d like to say no, but the reality is yes. Even though the mesh screen we use is tightly fit around the lenses, there is no way to keep the little bugs from getting stuck. Keep in mind that maintenance can remove the lenses, with mesh included, and rinse them to clean off any dirt and debris.

Q: Do you have any plans to add additional filter info to the website? It is difficult to tell the difference between fixtures.

A: We’re always looking for feedback on our website and how we can better serve our customers. The answer to your question is we will now! As we understand it, adding more filter criteria to the website will allow you to search for fixtures of a certain size, certain lumen output or maybe even type of LED used. The new TEKA Illumination website, coming soon, will have a size relationship page within each category of fixtures that will help you visualize the difference in sizes. We will work to add source lumens to the fixtures as well so you can narrow down your searches for the perfect TEKA Illumination or B-K Lighting fixtures easily.

Q: Why is your in-use receptacle not a standard catalog item instead of a custom order?

A: The simple answer is we are working on a project to convert the in-use receptacle from a custom to a standard product. This project is scheduled to be completed May of 2018. Be on the lookout for our sales bulletins during these times so you don’t miss the release.

Q: In what way can you make the set screws more tamper proof?

A: We can provide tamper resistant set screws with a star-pin pattern that require a special tool. Contact Ian or Craig in technical sales for more information.

Q: When will the in-use receptacle bollards with USB become standard?

A: The sales release for the TWB bollard with in-use receptacle is December 19th. The scheduled sales release for the in-use receptacle is early May of 2018. Be on the lookout for our sales bulletins during these times so you don’t miss the release.

Q: Are the catenary cable specs online?

A: We currently have a metal halide example of the catenary system online in the ‘Custom Designs’ section of the website (search term: CUS-1400-90), however for other configurations it is best to contact Tech Sales with your inquiry at this time. We received feedback during the Fall 2017 BKU session that this custom design section is not very useful in its current condition and are considering updating with new product and descriptions which better convey the scope of our capabilities. These changes should help to get you and your clients thinking about the possibilities, but we can never represent all possible avenues for custom designs on the website and encourage you to call us, so we can find the appropriate solution for your specific application.

Q: What percentage of copper is in the copper fixtures?

A: The copper we use is a minimum of 99.9% copper, regardless of use within the fixture.

Q: How many fixtures ship per day on average?

A: About 600 fixtures a day is our average over the course of a year.
