Absolutely, it’s that easy! Our solution turned out to be so simple that if you have ever canned peaches in your grandmother’s kitchen, you have learned how to seal our Precision2® and Tenaya2® In-Grade fixtures.
A.H. Kerr, of the former Kerr Glass Manufacturing Corp., invented a small flat metal disk with a permanent composition gasket in 1915 called "the lid." The lid sealed on the top of a mason jar; a threaded metal ring held the lid in place. This two-part lid system transformed home canning safety and is still in use today.
The secret is our patented HydroLock® plate.* It works just like a mason jar lid and threaded metal ring –it seals above the conduit entrance, where 80% of all leaks occur. The HydroLock® plate eliminates the need for encapsulants or potting compounds that are normally used to try and create a watertight installation at the conduit entries on the composite housing. The HydroLock® plate is your first line of defense for unsuccessful pipe seals.
Our approach to the problem relied on highly engineered components and a design so advanced that it resulted in our third U.S. Patent application for Precision2® and Tenaya2® In-Grade fixtures. Patented HydroLock® technology protects the wiring system by providing a fail-safe water barrier between the junction box and interior components. Anti-Siphon Valve™ (ASV™) prevents "wicking" through the conductor’s insulation. Wires can act as straws, our exclusive ASV™ process guards against moisture. Patented Anti-Condensation Valve (ACV™)* eliminates condensation from the fixture’s interior.
Patented HydroLock® technology consists of a hydrological barrier plate for in-grade light fixture housings and to prevent water entry into the water sensitive compartments of the light fixture. The barrier plate has a plate body with an opening in which an anti-siphon wire pass-through valve connects electrical components on one side of the barrier plate with the wires in the junction box on the opposite side of the barrier plate. The barrier plate is sealed around its outer edge against the housing wall.
The pass-through valve is configured to prevent water from wicking along the wires and to prevent water from passing around the valve. The barrier plate is installed without tools and an effective seal is easily obtained. Using the barrier plate, water is prevented from migrating between the junction box and the primary housing compartments of the housing.
The ACV™ system works as a one-way value in its normal position. When the fixture is energized (turned on) and the pressure builds, the static air inside the lamp chamber is allowed to escape through the ACV™ valve. When the fixture is de-energized (turned off) and the pressure collapses, the ACV™ prevents air from returning into the lamp chamber. Since all other components are hermetically sealed, a vacuum is then formed inside the lamp chamber which makes it impossible for condensation to develop.
Water is the main enemy of in-grade lighting. The integrated components of the Precision2® and Tenaya2® Water Management System represents a whole new way of handling the problem, resulting in years of trouble-free performance.
