Ed began his career at B-K Lighting as part of the engineering department and later transitioned into manufacturing. He was charged with overseeing BOM’s (Bill of Materials) for work orders and he was the perfect person to do so with his extreme attention to detail, strong memory and dedicated work ethic.
To say Ed was a survivor is a bit of an understatement – he battled and won several types of cancers during his employment. The company rallied behind him during that exhausting period and held a special haircut event called “Support Ed.” Twenty employees shaved their heads in a company-wide display of solidarity.
Mr. McCauley didn’t let his illness affect his daily routine aside from treatments. This wasn’t unnoticed and Ed was nominated by his peers as an Employee of the Month for June 2007. Ed's was also one of the few recipients of B-K Lighting’s coveted President's Award. Here’s what an anonymous employee wrote of Ed,
A work ethic incomparable to any I have ever witnessed in my 36 years of employment. A grateful attitude, constantly upbeat, and resistant the true reality of his situation. A fighter with fortitude, extremely humble and a hero to us all. He should be employee of the year.
One of Ed's greatest passions, aside from lighting of course, are trains - but not the table top variety.
Ed McCauley created this model electric train in his self-created machine shop.
Ed sent us this picture of his third Sunday of his well-earned retirement. All aboard!
Ed has spent and will spend many more weekends at the Bitter Creek Western Railroad on the coast of central California near his second residence at Pismo Beach. Ed created his own custom machine shop complete with mills, lathes and other machinery necessary to create a scaled train which runs on 7 1/2 gauge track. He first fell in love with trains when he was a small boy. This undated photo shows one of his earlier experiences.
During his small send-off party, surrounded by fellow employees and his family - including his wife Donna - Ed said he was destined for a chore list he had been avoiding for years and a slew of planned national travels.
We thank Ed McCauley for his years of tireless service and enthusiastic dedication at our company.
