QUESTION: What percentage of electricity used at B-K Lighting is generated on site?

ANSWER:

solar panels
This section of paneling sits over the machine shop and central offices looking East towards the Sierra foothills.

Installed back in 2007, the solar output generated by B-K Lighting's state-of-the-art 240-kilowatt renewable solar energy system, which included 680 Mitsubishi Electric 170-Watt panels, was monitored by the minute. A quick check of our lifetime-to-date power generation divided by our consumption (.09 GWh / 3.1 GWh = .2903) reveals we have generated approximately 29% of our power needs on site.

B-K Lighting Founder, Doug Hagen,

Solar power generation is a natural extension of our overall community and business philosophy. This project is also very important to all of our employees because they feel that they have a stake in making our area a better place to work and live.

However, in 2017, here we grow again!

With the construction of a new neighboring building and solar-equipped, parking shade structure, the 10 year old solar panels were replaced with a total of 1,400 new, higher effciency panels. A car charging station was added, able to charge up to four electronic cars at once!
