In 1986 Steve and Cathy Horner transplanted their small family to Tijuana in an act of faith and started a small orphanage a year later with hopes to care for desperately poor and abandoned children.
The Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education, named after lighting designer, educator and advocate James Nuckolls, helps support programs at the university level whose primary goal is to inspire students and incite a deep understanding of light in architecture and related disciplines.
The IES San Francisco Section hosted their 2013 Illumination Awards Banquet on March 21st, 2013. This event was held at the Foreign Cinema Café, West Gallery on Mission Street.
The Lighting Practice was founded in 1989 and is a certified Women's Business Enterprise and is a US Green Building Council Member. The firm can claim four B-K University alumni including Bill Kader (2003), Ramona Pratt (2006), project managers Stephen Hoppe (2007) and Jonathan Hoyle (2008). Principals include Helen K. Diemer, president, along with Alfred R. Borden and Michael A. Barber.
